Yekai Xu is a Ph.D. candidate in the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies at the University of Tokyo. He holds a master’s degree in Data Science and Information Technologies from Tsinghua University and a bachelor’s degree in Automation from Tianjin University. Yekai is an enthusiastic practitioner in global affairs. In 2020, he worked as an intern at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific for six months, where he completed a policy brief on inclusive business in the health sector and organized a webinar on promoting grassroots innovation. Later, he served as a Portfolio Management Analyst Consultant at Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, establishing an operational database on cross-border investments of multilateral development banks. In 2022, Yekai became the delegate of China to the G20 Youth Summit (Y20) and contributed to the digital transformation section of the Communiqué. Currently, he is investigating the Japan-South Korea relationship from the perspective of the interplay between media and foreign policy using computational methods and a large corpus of formal government texts and mass media & social media texts.
