Theorizing Law and Religion from the global South: Buddhist Constitutionalism in Sri Lanka and Thailand

Sanjayan Rajasingham is a JSD candidate at Yale Law School. Born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, he has an LL.B. from the University of Colombo, an LL.M. from Yale Law School, and previously taught law at the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, in 2017-2018. Sanjayan’s research focuses on constitutional law in Buddhist-majority contexts. In his dissertation, he theorizes the relationship between law and religion through two states in the global South – in this case, Theravada Buddhism in Sri Lanka and Thailand. His other research interest is legal pedagogy in diverse classrooms, an interest that grew out of his experiences as a student and a teacher. After his degree, Sanjayan hopes to return to work as a law professor in Sri Lanka.
