The cosmographical tradition in eighteenth-century Iberoamerica

Peter Haskin is a PhD candidate in history at Yale University. He studies early modern readers and writers who lived in the part of the world we today call “Latin America.” Of particular interest to Peter are eighteenth-century works of geography and natural history on the Americas. At the University of São Paulo, Peter plans to continue his dissertation research on texts such as Sebastião da Rocha Pita’s História da América Portuguesa (1730), Miguel Antônio Ciera’s “Mappa geographicum” (1758), and Anselm Eckart’s “Zusätze” (1785).
