Mayumi Shimizu is a Ph.D. candidate in political science at the University of Tokyo. She is also a Ph.D. candidate in sociology at the University of São Paulo. She received her B.A. in Foreign Studies (Luso-Brazilian Studies) from Sophia University and an MPP from the University of Tokyo. Her research interests include police-citizen relationships, street-level police work, and public security issues in Brazil. In her Ph.D. dissertation, she examines the interaction between police and society by focusing on the daily work of São Paulo Military Police to offer a new perspective for understanding police deviance.
