The role of contemporary media and justice: Analysing coverage, and effects, of the Oscar Pistorius trial

Charl is a Fox International Fellow (2015/16) from the School of Languages and Literatures at the University of Cape Town. He is a PhD candidate currently researching the ‘media trial’ concept in the South African context - his ongoing research links to his interest in justice, crime, violence and the media. He holds degrees in literature, languages and media studies – his MA dissertation was a collection of political cartoons that focused entirely on the South African opposition political party the Democratic Alliance. Charl tutored at the University of Cape Town, as well as at Stockholm University where he completed Masters-level coursework while on a semester-long academic exchange. He would again like to teach upon completion of his PhD. He will spend his time at Yale auditing courses, doing further research, and writing up his dissertation.
