Constructing Jewish Brazil: Immigration, National and Transnationalism, 1925-1975

Michael Rom is a PhD candidate in the Department of History at Yale University, where he studies Latin American and Jewish history. His dissertation concerns the construction of Brazilian national identity among Jewish immigrants in twentieth century Brazil. Michael will be spending the coming school year conducting dissertation research in Sao Paulo, Brazil, drawing upon Brazilian Yiddish literature and newspapers and conducting oral history interviews. Michael has presented his research at universities in Canada, the United States, Israel and South Africa. Before coming to Yale, Michael completed Bachelors of Arts and Education at the University of Toronto, and taught Social Studies and English at high schools in Vancouver, Canada.
