Iain MacGillivray is a Doctoral candidate, researcher, and foreign policy analyst in the School of Social and Political Sciences (SSPS) at the University of Melbourne. He has over twelve years’ experience in Australia and overseas as a researcher and political analyst. Iain has expertise in Turkish and Middle Eastern politics and security, and detailed international affairs knowledge of the Indo-Pacific. His research interests include Turkish Politics, International Relations Theory, Middle East Politics, Security Studies and Foreign Policy. His current research examines how the events of the Arab Spring have reshaped Turkish foreign policy towards state actors and non-state actors. Iain works as a teaching associate and research assistant at the University of Melbourne in International Relations, and Islamic and Middle East Studies. He has authored articles in reputable journals and think-tanks on the Middle East, China, Australia, and the United States. He regularly provides commentary on foreign policy and international relations on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the BBC, and other international media outlets. He holds a Master of International Relations from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Science (Middle East Studies) from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey.
