Philile Mbatha is currently a 2nd year PhD Candidate in the Environmental and Geographical Science department at the University of Cape Town. Her project title is Towards Innovative Governance Approaches for Sustainable Rural Coastal Livelihoods in South Africa. Philile s research interests are mainly within marine and coastal governance in Western Indian Ocean regions. She has previously obtained vast experience in the research field working with poor and marginalized communities, as well as in coastal resources management and policy issues. She is also interested in human rights issues connected to marine and coastal governance processes in rural areas of South Africa.
